I just published the first (0.1.0) release of nyasm, a toy 6502 assembler I've been developing in Rust! it's missing some features at the moment, and it's probably not ready for production use yet (if it will ever be), but it should at least be somewhat usable right now (I've been able to get valid NES binaries out of it)

you can get the release from @codeberg here: codeberg.org/tromino/nyasm

I just discovered librespeed.org which is a free and open source internet connection speed test service. Sorry speedtest.net, nothing personal but if it's #foss I just can't resist it. Bye!

I'll never understand why free/open-source software project use proprietary platforms like Discord or Reddit.

Like... Y'all built more flexible and robust tools *in the 90s* just use 'em damnit

And the issues with lengthy build times are well known and caused by some fundamental decisions made by the Rust team... every dependency has to be delivered as source code and compiled on the target machine... leading to ~400 dependencies for Shortwave (a small app for listening to Internet radio). Not sure what it would take to have more sophisticated apps such as office suites, graphic editors or OSes build with it... so I can understand those complaints from package maintainers...

As much as I would like to love #Rust it sometimes fires back to me the hard way... today I just tried to update my Shortwave app from AUR and it stopped short... even though the repo mentions Rust 1.48+ and I’ve had 1.50 from the Manjaro repos some of its dependencies no longer compiles successfully... upgrading to 1.51 (released just 2 weeks ago) solved the build issues... beside that the release build took AGES... (for a small tool such as this one)... actually it was more than 20 mins... 1/2

So, the problem was not related to KMail/Kontact or to Kubuntu (of course not), but to the provider (Deutsche Glasfaser) messing up IPv6 🙄

Does anyone else have problems with KMail/Kontact on Kubuntu 20.04 not connecting to IMAP servers? Since 3 days or so I get "org.kde.pim.kimap: Connection to server lost QAbstractSocket::UnknownSocketError" messages, but the server is reachable and working.

This is a long shot, but I want to put the power of social media and federation to the test.

My son wants to become a commercial airline pilot when he’s grown up. It would be awesome if we could find a commercial pilot in the fediverse that we can follow and ask questions of.

If everyone who reads this could boost it, it would be much appreciated and it would mean the world to my son if he could get in touch with a real-life commercial pilot! ✈️

Call me old-fashioned, but I am always going back to and when I need to create simple tools with UIs. The native binaries are small and don't have any third-party dependencies you need to package along the tool. And with the UI designer you're really fast.

I have been testing Google Stadia lately. I have a 600Mbit fiber line and I must say unfortunately Stadia is not ready for prime time. Every evening starting around 7-8pm Stadia games become unplayable. Before7pm and after 11pm it works great. Even shooter like Borderlands3 or Destiny2 work flawlessly at 4k with HDR, at least from my point of view. Next on my cloud gaming list is shadow.tech.

There's a new "experimental feature" being tested in Firefox 83: sponsored sites in the URL bar.

"Mozilla works with advertising partners to place sponsored tiles on the Firefox home page (or New Tab) that would be useful to Firefox users. Mozilla is paid when users click on sponsored tiles."

support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/s

You can disable this by setting `browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.showSponsoredTopSites` to `false`.
